Overview

What is A393 rebar mesh?

A393 fabric mesh is welded steel rebar mesh fabric produced out of 10mm deformed steel rebar. It is manufactured with longitudal and latitudal H10 rebar wires, with an aperture size (the hole between the wires) of 200mm x 200mm. The ‘393’ refers to the cross sectional area per metre width, which essentially means how much steel ‘reinforcement’ per metre width. Larger or smaller apertures for the same diameter steel would increase or decrease this cross sectional area, and larger or smaller diameter steel rebar used with the same aperture size would also increase or decrease this figure (such as A252, which is mesh with the same size aperture, but using 8mm steel rebar instead of the 10mm steel rebar used in A393).

What is a393 rebar mesh used for?

A 393 rebar mesh is used heavy-duty reinforcement of concrete elements, including slabs and walls. Flat sheets are used in the construction of driveways, building floors, and foundation slabs.

A393 mesh dimensions and sheet size?

Standard sheets of A393 mesh are 4.8 metres by 2.4 metres. However, it is also possible to spec Merchant sized sheets (at 3.6 metres by 2.0 metres), and what if often referred to as ‘Safety Size’ sheets, which are 2.4 metres by 1.2 metres. You can also order bespoke sheet sizes to your schedule/requirements.Learn more about mesh sizes here.

A393 Mesh Overlap

Lap length for A393 mesh of standard size sheets should be at least 400mm on each side*. Eurocode 2 states that lap length should be staggered so as not to create a large zone of discontinuity that could potentially lead to member failure.*This figure is purely a suggestion and all overlap calculations should be made by a qualified structural or civil engineer.

A393 Mesh Bar Size

Rebar used in A393 mesh is H10 or 10mm rebar for both longitudal and latitudal (cross) bars.

A393 Mesh Prices

Prices for a393 mesh in the UK have varied a lot in recent years, with very high prices during Covid times, due to demand and global supply, to much more reasonable prices today. Expect to pay between £55 and £65 for a standard size (4.8m x 2.4m) sheet. The lower end of the scale would be for what is often referred to as ‘eco’ sheets with flying ends.
